Our thumbs are green-- and our business is too!

We wanted to share with our Flora friends the ways in which we're trying to be green (and go even greener)!  We've begun offering "green vessels" in our shop, for carry-out flowers! Ok, so really, they're just cans, but we love giving them makeovers and a second chance at life!  This means we can offer our customers the option of a very inexpensive vessel for a takeaway arrangement.

Another way we're going green is by reusing our votive cups, and recycling our candle wax after events.  We donate the wax to local candle makers-- and we even carry some of these candles in the shop!

We also love foraging here at Flora!  Hunting for local foliage, berries, and seasonal blooms around the area is one of our favorite pastimes.  We also try our best to buy lots of our floral from local growers and flower farms in order to minimize our carbon footprint.  Just last Fall we found ourselves in the middle of nowhere, cutting our own cotton out of the field, with a new friend who happens to own a cotton gin.  Who knew being a florist could be full of so much adventure!?

THE BIG DAY: Indie Weddings & Celebrations Fair

Hey Friends of Flora!

We are giddy with excitement to be included in the lineup at next month's Indie Wedding Festival!  The Big Crafty and Asheville Indie Weddings have teamed up to bring you this local craft event all about weddings!

Our dear friend, Jennifer, of Asheville Indie Weddings will give you the details:

"On Saturday March 30 at the Asheville Art Museum in downtown Asheville we will present The Big Day: Indie Wedding and Celebrations Fair. In contrast to large scale, traditional wedding fairs, which can be impersonal and overwhelming for couples and vendors, The Big Day will reflect the spirit of indie craft fairs and combine it with wedding vendors showing work that is current and design-conscious. The juried show will present a select 70 vendors with 3 to 5 vendors representing each wedding category. The fair and indie craft market will serve couples looking to book all their wedding vendors, as well as those couples looking to add a few handmade details to their celebration. The event will include traditional wedding vendors (for example, venues, photographers, catering, etc.) with crafters and artists who make a variety of wedding accoutrements (for example, jewelry, letterpress invitations, handmade décor, accessories etc.). Couples can book a wedding photographer at one booth, taste wedding cake at the booths of pastry chefs, or purchase handmade elements on the spot from crafters. The Big Day will also include models featuring handmade attire, DIY demos, live music, local breweries, a raffle and a swag bag for the first 100 couples. This is the perfect event for style conscious couples, who want to plan a locally inspired wedding that is creative and left of center."
